As the people that live
here will tell you, the weather has been somewhat changeable over
the last months, glorious sunshine one day, and tropical storms
the next! Well Tuesday 1st March started out looking dodgy, but
turned into perfect golfing weather. The wind wasn’t half
as strong as it had been for the last few days, but was coming from
a south/westerly direction, not necessarily a bad thing when it
comes to the dreaded 2nd hole! Normally a strong side wind makes
the already narrow fairway seem like about 10 metres wide! But wind
was behind on the day making it much easier to reach the green in
2, so much so that I managed to par the 2nd and vice-president Phil
Richards & Jo McKernon birdied it!

We had 9 teams
out playing a better ball format which means that the team member
that scores the highest Stableford points on hole, scores for the
team. After a few last minute changes in teams, I was partnering
a guest, Daz Cross, who with his family has been coming into the
Talk of the Town where I work. Daz begrudgingly borrowed my spare
set of Howson clubs (he normally plays with Calloway!) but after
a quick knock on the driving range was striking them like Seve Ballesteros!!
We had a great round in good company and thankfully partnered each
other very well, when I failed Daz came good and vice versa. Even
thought we were in with a chance of winning after scoring 42 points,
but no my original partner, Phil and the partner I turned down Mr.
Captain, Simon Atherfold beat us by just 1 point! Coming third with
41 points were the McKernons, Jo & Dennis. In fact there wasn’t
much between any of the teams. Nearest the pins were won by guest
Alan Jones only 5 feet away on the par 3 7th, and Captain Simon
Atherfold was closest on the 15th.
Our next event
is our 1st major of the year, Captains Cup on Tuesday March
