I'd been looking forward to the game on 1st August because I knew I was to be drawn with Larry, the young Irish fella I played with on our last outing. We were to be joined by the up and coming talents of Eva Krivacska who I haven't played with in quite a while. We were all out in 3 balls making the pace of the game a little quicker. It was nice and sunny but as ever the wind started picking up not long after we kicked off and developed into a force 9 gale! We had a guest playing with us for the first time, Ken Tull who later joined the society after the match, plus some old familiar faces in our guest ranks, like Mike Minihayne, a guest winner in previous times.

  Larry, Eva and I were last out as I was the one making sure everyone knew their tee times and what they were doing. We all got off to a reasonable start on the front 9, but Eva started to lose it a bit on the back 9. I was still doing fine up until the 17th where after hitting a palm tree on my 2nd shot I proceeded to make mistake after mistake, meaning no score on the 17th and I only just managed to scrape a point on the 18th too. Larry had a pretty steady round but also started to tire by the last few holes but still managed to score a very impressive 32 points off a 20 handicap, enough to secure him victory in the guest competition. In the members comp, apart from the winner Jo McKernon with 37 points, only 5 points separated the following 12 players! The best of these runners up being Vince Price who scored 33 earning him 2nd place over all.
  Nearest the pins were won by vice captain Dennis May on the 7th and Paul Benham had a blinder on the 12th, which with the tee positions right at the back combined with wind was a feat just to reach the green. The 2's were rolled over from our last game offering a prize of 82 euro, which was won by our winner of the day, Jo McKernon for a birdie on the 4th. The sweepstake was won once again by Tony Fawcett. I hope he doesn't have as much luck when I play him in our match play knockout next week!
