We had a great turn out for our Tuesday 2nd August full handicap stableford competition. With a few last minute coming goings, 10 guests and 20 members meant a total of 30 going out in 3 balls. The advantage of going out in groups of 3 means the flow of play is a bit more rapid, so despite having so many in numbers a nice steady pace was achieved and we managed to get the 1st and last group to finish within about an hour of each other. Being in the last group myself, we were joined on the last 6 holes by an Irish fella who was just having a knock on his own. One of the great things about golf is you get to meet a lot of people, and as you are spending a few hours with them at a time, you do get to know them a little as you share in each others triumphs and disasters! You do of course come across many characters in this game and several of our members have distinct personalities! One of which was our victor of the day, Dennis "the menace" McKernon. Romping in with 39 points and having his handicap shaved by 2 shots, Dennis is renown for his dry to arid sense of humour! In 2nd place playing off a handicap of 14, Dave Hill came off with an impressive 38 points losing him 1 shot off his handicap. Narrowly escaping a handicap cutting (again) was last years captain, Dave Cooper with 36 points.

  Even our guests came in with good scores, the winner by 3 points on this occasion was Ray Messenger coming in with 30 points off a handicap of 11, closely followed by a regular guest, Mike Minihayne and one of my playing partners Steve Hoy. Nearest the pins were won by my guest Wayne Jordon on the 7th and Dennis on the par three 15th. Nobody managed a birdie on any of the par 3's so the 2's comp wasn't won and will rollover to our next comp. The lucky winner on the sweepstake was Terry Blood.
