| On Tuesday 3rd August we had
quite an international group of guests. Along with 19 of our members,
we had 6 guests playing with us on the day, 4 Indians, a Scot and
a German by the name of Rolf Schumaker!! Yes you read right, ROLF
Schumaker. Not the F1 racing driver Ralf, (although he races go karts!!)
but a nice fella from near Dusseldorf playing off an impressive 9
handicap. I believe that Corralejo’s Chinese whispers had turned
him into the celebrity! As usual we had sponsored nearest the pin competitions on the 7th and 15th par 3 holes, as well as the 2’s competition and sweepstake for the winner. It was a scorcher of a day, and to make sure we got round a bit quicker we teed off both the 1st and the 10th. It was probably the hottest event of the year, and I’m not just talking about the weather, the highest scores of the year were achieved by not 1, but by 2 players with 36 points and 2 players came in second with 35 points! So it came down to card play-offs for both 1st and 2nd with Rob Hughes coming out on top. Getting a shots back this week were Joan Roaden, now back off 28 and Stuart Page, Who will now play off a handicap of 23. Both came in with 22 points. Even 14th place had quite a reasonable score of 28. Our guest winner this week was Rolf Schumaker, who came in with 29 points. Nearest the pin on the 7th was won by Steve Cordings from Chablis wine bar in Corralejo, and Tony Fawcett from Chaplins in Caleta won on the 15th. The sweepstake this week was won by Dave Hill who picked out Rob Hughes as the winner. |
At the presentation after the game, whilst having a nibble and replenishing fluids, we made the draw for our first ever Individual Match Play Trophy. We have qualifiers being played by 16 members to make it to the 1st round proper to be played by the end of this month. Along side this we will be holding a Plate competition for the 1st 16 not to qualify for the Match Play Trophy. Unfortunately, I am one of those now playing for the Plate after losing my qualifier to Paul Benham of the Estrella Del Mar holiday complex in Corralejo. Joining me so far are Joan Roaden and Dave Hill losing their qualifiers to Ted Hewlett and Derek Mac. Full details of the draw are posted on our Leaderboard page. Our next society events are on Tuesdays, 17th and 31st August. Tee times are from 10.30 am.
