Every other month we have a fun comp on a Sunday. On this occasion it was a Texas scramble in teams of 2. Basically, both partners tee off and chose which of the 2 shots is in the best position to continue forward to achieve the lowest score on the hole. They then both play their 2nd shots from that position and continue this operation until holing out. At the end of the game the total amount of shots they've taken round the 18 holes is added up then 20% of their combined handicaps is deducted off their score. For example, a team shoots a round of a gross 80 shots in 18 holes, their handicaps are 5 and 25. 20% of combined handicap of 30 (6 shots) is deducted from their score giving them a round of 74. The game can be a good confidence booster for the average amateur golfer like most of us are, as it is much easier to achieve a round close to par.

After recent performances, I was glad to be asked by Coops to partner him for the day. He has been avoiding handicap cuts by the skin of his teeth recently. Well, in the end, just 0.8 shots separated 1st and 3rd! Myself and Coops came in with 70.4, quite respectable we thought, but only to be ousted by Derek Mac and 5 handicapper Steve Bennett who came in with 70. But the winning team on this occasion were the McKernons, Jo and Dennis who came off with a score of 69.6!
Don't forget our next event
