Recently, we have
been having exceptionally good weather for this time of year, and
unusual for the island, very little wind. This has meant that temperatures
have soared up as high as 35 ºC! Spending 4-5 hours on a golf
course means you have to take some measures against the heat and
the sun. On the plus side, very little wind makes the course less
hazardous, although as the people who play it regularly will tell
you, no wind on the course makes it play very different and very
strange.
We had 10 of 2 teams out playing a better ball format
which means that the team member that scores the highest Stableford
points on hole, scores for the team. I was partnering a regular
guest, Ian Green, who along with his wife Sandy, have been coming
into the Talk of the Town where I work. Ian, like myself hasn't
been playing long, but we managed to knock up a good score of 41
points, in with a chance we thought. But it turned out we were tied
3rd with Dave Cooper and John Gibson, with 42 points in 2nd place
were Dennis May and guest Gareth Davis, but I am pleased to congratulate
our winners with 43 points, our rookie of the society and her partner,
Karen Boyles and Dave Hill. And it was Karen who scored mostly for
the team!

Nearest the
pins were won by Dave Hill on the 7th and my partner Ian Green on
the par three 15th. The 2’s comp was won by guest Glen Unwin
for a birdie on the 4th and the sweep was won by “Lucky”
Linden Bartlam and Derek Mac.

Don’t
forget our next event is on Tuesday, 24th May.
Tee times are from 10.40 am followed by Tuesday 7th and
Sunday 12th June.
