What
started off as a field of 19 players, whittled its' way down to
just 14 by tee off on our Sunday Funday better ball competition.
As there were so many changes to the original draw, we decided to
just draw our partners blind from a hat. I was last out of the hat
and was lucky to draw Rob Hughes as my partner. This meant that
we were out first as a 2 ball as Rob has to prepare the food we
have after the match.
A few days before, I had a lesson with our new pro at
Fuerteventura Golf Club, Mark who’s from the UK. We played
9 holes and he gave me a few things to work on. One of the major
things he changed was my grip, anyone who plays golf will know that
this changes your whole game, it’s like swinging with someone
else’s arms! But for the better good in the long run I’m
persevering.
Excuses now made, me and Rob started off really well,
Rob parred the 1st and 3rd, I parred the 2nd & scored the highest
on the 4th. After that, apart from 3 holes, Rob scored all the points
for our team, he was playing really well, despite his 2 shot cut
from the last game. Individually, Rob scored 37 points on his own,
and I scored just 23, (8 on the back 9), but to score well in better
ball comps, it’s down to your partner scoring when you make
a mistake so the combination meant we came off with 43 points, enough
to win the day. In 2nd place with 39 points were 2 teams, new member
Bernard Greaves and Billy Seaforth, and John Burgess and a guest,
Lee from Caleta.
