As anyone who has been here in the last few weeks will tell you, we've had a fairly windy time of it recently, but thankfully Tuesday 12th April started off not too bad, although the wind did gradually pick up through the day. There are many members in our society that are playing well at the moment, which meant it was anyone's game. I was going for my 3rd successive Tuesday victory in a row, and even managed to put extra pressure on myself by picking my own name out in the sweepstake! All this amounted to too much pressure on myself. Paul Benham a hot favourite, as well as Derek, Phil, Jo and last years Captain, Coops all playing well of late, it was anybody's game. Coops incidentally, told me that he was going to be the days winner! Well, nobody had accounted for a member who lives in the UK and plays with the society whenever he's here. With a massive 41 points on his 1st game this year with the society, Alan Wrigley was sitting pretty waiting for the final group to come in, which consisted of Paul Benham and 2 ladies! Anyone who knows Paul, knows he likes to perform in front of an audience, and especially if they are ladies, so everyone had high expectations of him! One of my playing partners, James Crouch, who had picked Paul in the sweepstake, was waiting with baited breath as Paul and his lady playing partners (all with big smiles on their faces!) came down the steps to our adopted club house, The Kings Arms in Caleta. Though an impressive score by anyone's standards, 40 points was just not quite enough for Paul to beat our winner of the day, Alan Wrigley. Alan has now been cut by 2 shots to an 18 handicap, and Paul has 1 shot shaved off his handicap bringing down to 21.

Alan and Paul
were not the only one's to have a good day, as there was a double
rollover on our 2's competition offering a cash prize of 112 Euro.
After coming 3rd with 37 points, Dennis May also scooped the money
for a birdie on the par three 4th. Tied for 4th in the competition
was myself and Phil Richards with 35 points. Phil, our vice-president
and one of the founder members of the society, announced on Tuesday
that sadly for us, he and our beloved event starter, Tina, are heading
back to the UK to live. We, of course wish them all the very best,
and look forward to the odd visit from time to time. Tina will be
sadly missed (oh and Phil!!) Our guest winner this week was James
Crouch with 34 points playing off 18. James also won nearest the
pin on the 7th, narrowly missing a cut of the 2's money as well.
Nearest the pin on the 15th was that old dog, Dennis McKernon and
sweepstake winner was Lyndon Bartlam, a name to watch out for in
the near future!

Don’t
forget our next event is Tuesday, 26th April. Tee
times are from 10.40 am followed by a fun comp on Tuesday
10th May.
