At our AGM last December, we decided that one of our Sunday Fundays would be a 3 club challenge. This means you are only allowed to take 3 clubs of your choice and a putter onto the course. Everybody has their favourite clubs with which they feel most comfortable, but you also have to balance that out with practicality to be able to do long and medium hits as well as short little chips and potential bunker shots. Everyone had their own thoughts and there were many different combinations. It's a good exercise for the average golfer as it puts you in situations where you have no choice but to be adventurous or inventive. I personally took the middle of the range, a 3 wood, 7 iron and a pitching wedge. I need to build up a bit more confidence with my 3 wood and thought this a great opportunity to do so, believe me, many lessons were learnt!!
The outcome
of the day was that quite reasonable scores were achieved, especially
by our winner, Dave Cooper who romped in with 38 points (with 3
clubs!) Our handicap secretary had a few words to say after the
game! In 2nd place was our president, Derek Mac with 34 points also
very respectable. We still had our usual nearest the pins and 2's
comp. Nearest the pin on the 7th was Dennis McKernon, I think he
was the only one to hit the green and was only on by a foot! And
Dave Cooper got within 5 feet of the 15th. Unfortunately for Dave,
he missed his putt for birdie which would have won him 98 Euro in
our 2's comp rollover! No one else got a "2" so its a rollover carried
onto the Broncemar Cup on mid-summers day. The prize for the 2's
is an estimated 160 Euro!!
So its a rollover
carried onto the Broncemar Cup on mid-summers day.
The prize for the 2's is an estimated 160 Euro!! We also have many
other special things lined up for our 2nd Major of the year. This
is the 2nd event sponsored by the Broncemar Beach Apartments
in Caleta de Fuste. Defending his title is Paul Worrall
(Egor) who won last year event with 40 points. Paul hasn't played
much this year, but is still full of confidence to retain his title.
He is however, going to have some stiff competition though, already
we have nearly 30 competitors for the day. Still room for some more
though, so if you want to take part in the golf in the day and/or
the evening presentation meal being held in Caleta de Fuste please
get in contact with me, Dave Brown on (0034) 620 161360,
Derek Mac on (0034) 646 672888 or drop me an email
The closing time for entry into the comp will be 2pm
this Monday, 20th June. Tee times are from 10.30
on Tuesday 21st June. The evening presentation meal starts
at 7.30pm at the Sports Tavern in Caleta where
we will meet and after the meal downstairs we will carry on partying
through the night. There is accommodation available if you would
like to stay over in Caleta or transport can be arranged. Full details
are available with myself or Derek, but please be quick, as there
are limited spaces available. Hope to see you there.
