Corralejo Golf Society, Fuerteventura, Canary Islands

It has to be said that from my own personal point of view, I had one of the most enjoyable rounds of golf I've had in a while. Apart from playing pretty well myself, (after months of playing bad) my fellow players in my group made a good day superb!
Due to transport problems, our President Derek Mac, couldn't make it on the day so I was on my own with the organising of the event. Joining the 19 members for the day were 6 guests, a regular Ted Cording, Steve's dad, a friend of theirs Dave Wright and 4 lovely ladies from Ireland who had contacted me via our website
I was lucky enough to have the pleasure of being drawn with 2 of them, Tina a 12 handicapper & Carolyn who plays off 20. Making up the 4 was Graham Thomson who celebrated his 50th birthday last week, had to mention that, sorry Graham! Apparently the Irish ladies had somewhat over indulged in jugs of sangria the night before, and were all feeling a little delicate, you wouldn't have known by the way that Tina & Carolyn played, but to ease their pain a little they did take a buggy. Both were fabulous golfers and really good fun, they were hitting the ball for miles! The front 9 was filled with some pretty good golf from all of us. The 7th hole was the most eventful in more ways than one, this was where the girls' game started to take a turn for the worse, you could say that their wheels started to fall off, quite literally, as their buggy got a puncture! Graham on the par three 7th, completely sliced his tee shot but avoided the lake and landed on the 8th tee, thankfully there was nobody there at the time! He went one way round the lake whilst the rest of us went the more conventional route along the fairway to the green. Much to our amazement, including Grahams, just as we arrived at the green Graham took his shot and put it just 4 feet away from the pin! Unfortunately he narrowly missed his par, but was very thankful to walk away with a 4! Carolyn then proceeded to do a similar thing on the 8th, after a superb drive, she duffed her 2nd shot into the lake, then took a penalty drop and proceeded to put the ball just a few feet away from the pin with a wedge to walk away with a 5!

By the time we hit the back 9, the hangovers were just starting to kick in for the girls, but whilst Tina started to drop off a little Carolyn started kicking back into gear. It was extremely hot and not too much wind, so not ideal if you're already a little dehydrated! It appears we weren't the only one's having a good knock, Rob from the Kings Arms, Tony from Chaplins, Dennis McKernon and Alan Wrigley were all having a good day. Unfortunately for me, I had to cut myself a shot to 13 after playing in a Spanish Federation competition at the weekend, which was the difference of me coming joint 4th with Tony instead of 3rd with Captain Rob Hughes. Battling it out at the top were Dennis and Alan, who both came in with 38 points, on a card play-off Dennis narrowly beat Alan on the back 9, as Alan had scratched 2 holes. Nearest the pins were Rob Hughes who got within a few feet on the 4th and guest Cathy McGovern from Ireland was nearest on the 15th. Guest winner on the day was one of the other Irish ladies Carolyn who beat off competition from the others. Yet again no one got a 2, despite Rob being so close on the 4th, so it was to be a double rollover for our next game on the Sunday. The sweepstake was won by Eva Krivacska who swiped the money from Robs' hand very quickly before her other half Vince could get a look in!
