Our competitions are getting to be really close run events of late,
as both Tuesday 12th October and Sunday 17th proved to be. They
were both relatively quiet affairs, with a total of 18 playing on
the Tuesday, 3 of which were guests, and 2 out of the 3 guests playing
on the Tuesday, later joined the society as members after the game!!
Well, I thought, two out of three ain’t bad!! This brings
our membership up to a total of 37, not bad for our first full official
year. We have some great things lined up for next year too, details
to follow. The society as usual organized a nearest the pin competition
on the 7th and 15th par 3 holes, along with a “2’s”
competition and a sweepstake for the winner.
The day started off a little overcast but by about half way
round the sun came out. There was hardly any wind either, which
in theory should make it easier to play. Well, that’s the
theory anyway. It did end up in a 3 card play-off for the winner,
all three got 32 Stableford points, in this situation, whoever had
the best second 9 holes wins. There was only 6 points separating
the top ten from the winners.
Nobody’s getting
shots back this week as two players playing off 28 came last and
2nd last.
Guest winner
this week was Scott
Sneedon
playing off a handicap of 28 with a score of 28 points, 8 on front
9, 17 on back 9.
Nearest the pin on the
7th was won by our president, Derek Mac, and the 15th was won by
vice-president Phil Richards. I think there must be a conspiracy
going on. Phil also managed to pick the winner on the sweepstake
so also got his days golf for free! The 2’s competition wasn’t
won, so therefore the 36 Euro rolls over to our next event on Tuesday
26th October.
Out of our 3 guests this week, there was also a card
play-off between Jason Butler and Scott Sneddon both ending up with
25 points, and only 1 point behind was our other guest Phil Watts
with 24 points. Two of the guests this week joined the society,
Scott Sneddon, from El Mattorral, and Jason Butler from Corralejo.
Their handicaps were unaffected as they were still guests while
playing on the day. Also joining the clan this week was Lynden Bartlam,
who was a guest on our last event. Congratulations, and a warm welcome
to our new members.
Nobody’s getting
shots back this week as two players playing off 28 came last and
2nd last.
Our next society event is on
Tuesday, 26th October. Tee times are from 10.30
am.
