Well, a different story to tell on our 10th Stableford game of the year. The wind was back to its normal blustery self, still sunny but very windy. Noel Mulligan had to pull out at the last minute with back problems which left us with 19 players 5 of which were guests. Making appearances were Lol Hullet and Frank Kenny, members who don't live full time on the island, and also Steve Pew & Graham Thompson regular guests with the society. As usual a nice bunch of people enjoying as great day out.

  Lots of our members were in contention for a win, Derek Mac our President has been playing well lately, and last years captain, Dave Cooper who has been regularly fleecing the likes of Rob Hughes and others on the in between “practice” games! The outcome was almost predictable, despite the wind Derek predicted that a score of 35 would win, fantastic he thought as he came in with 35! But there was a tie for 1st place between myself and Dave Cooper (not again I hear you say!) with 37 points. On a card play-off Coops beat me on the back 9, and took the win and a 2 shot docking (about time) on his handicap. He is now off 24, plenty of room for scope one thinks, I have been docked to 21 and am very pleased. My aim is to get down to 18 by the end of the year.

  So Derek ended up 3rd closely followed by the McKernons earning important points for our player of the year competition. Our other yearly comp is our eclectic, currently in the lead is Jo McKernon with a fantastic 61! The details of these and all our other competitions are posted on the Leaderboard page where you can find the up to date state of play on all our competitions and who is doing what and when. Talking of Jo McKernon, she won both nearest the pins and Joan Roaden won the 2’s comp with a birdie on the 4th. A ladies day all round said someone! Our guest winner was no lady though, Denzil Wrigley (member Alan Wrigley’s son) not only won the guest prize, but also picked out the winner in the sweep and won himself 50 euro! A good day for him.

  Don’t forget our next event is on Tuesday, 24th May. Tee times are from 10.40 am followed by Tuesday 7th and Sunday 12th June.
