We had a great turnout for our April Sunday Funday. With 15 players we decided that a better ball competition in teams of 3 would be the best option. We normally only play better ball competitions in teams of two so this was a new experience for us. Basically we would take the best 2 scores of the 3 players in the team on each hole to count as the team score. This format makes for a real team spirit that I thoroughly enjoyed with my teammates Derek Mac and Simon Atherfold.

  We got off to a very shaky start with only one of our team scoring on the 1st hole, but we soon found a rhythm and worked together really well. Thankfully whenever one of the team made a mistake or got into a bit of trouble the other 2 came through to back it up. This is most important in this type of game, but we weren't the only ones having a good time of it. Hot on our heels were the McKernon clan. 3 generations of them, Grandpa Dennis, Father Craig and young Charlie were ripping it up between them too. Only 2 points were separating the four of the 5 teams on the front 9, so it was still anyone's game. Craig McKernon had a good back 9 scoring 20 points on his own merit, backed up by 13-year-old whiz kid Charlie and 165-year-old Dennis! (Well his wit is about that old!)

  In the end only 2 points separated the top 3 teams. Tony Fawcett, Peter Flynn and John Burgess, all good players in their own right scored a total of 74, the McKernon clan scored 75 and by just one point our team pipped them at the post with 76! So I'm afraid you're going to see my ugly mug once again on the rogues gallery, but never fear, I've had a game or two since and haven't been able to hit the ball for toffee! I knew my luck had to run out at some point! I'm going to try and have a little rest from golf this week and see if that helps for our next game on Tuesday 25th.
