It seems that every time we
play a society game, a record is smashed! Tuesday 17th August was
our biggest numbers yet. A total of 31 played on the day and 6 people
had to pull out at the last minute! A fantastic turn out for the
society. Also, we had the highest ever scores achieved on a society
day by 2 of our members who ended up in a card play-off for 1st
place.
Once again, as we were in large numbers, we had groups teeing
off both the 10th tee as well as the 1st. Along with 19 of our members,
we had 12 guests joining with us on the day. The society as usual
organized a nearest the pin competition on the 7th and 15th par
3 holes, along with a “2’s” competition and a
sweepstake for the winner.
It was a beautiful warm sunny day, with a moderate wind
to keep us cool, unlike the last time we played where there was
hardly a breath of air. Some people were also playing their match
play games along side our normal competition. Qualifiers have to
be played as soon as possible to be able to proceed with the Plate
Trophy (for further details see our Leaderboard
page)
Getting shots back this
week were Paul Worrall (Egor), now playing off 21, and Steed Ansell
now also playing off 21.
Guest winner
this week was Diane
Raeside playing
off a handicap of 20 with a score of 33 points, 14 on front 9, 19
on back 9.
Nearest the pin on the
7th was won by guest Mike Barry, and the 15th was won by Alan Collier
from Whispers. The sweepstake was won by a guest, Alan Watkins,
who got his days golf for free! The 2’s competition was won
by Alan Collier for a birdie on the 15th, he won himself 62 Euros.
Out of our 12 guests this week, Diane Raeside, who was
playing with Stuart Page and myself, came in with a winning score
of 33 points. In 2nd place was Dan Reeves, who scored 30 points
playing off a handicap of 14, 11 on the front 9 and 19 on the back.
3rd place was Joe Dunks, playing off 24 who also scored 30 points
but was beaten by Dan on a card play-off.
A special mention, I feel
is needed for our co-ordinator, Tina, who not only does the draw
and organizes everyone with their tee times, but also collects green
fees, prize money, gives out the scorecards and generally makes
sure that things run smoothly on the day.
