After having had a couple of months with around 30 players each time, it seemed like a quiet one last Tuesday. A nice number of 21 meant we could go out as 3 balls making the flow of play a little quicker. My 3 ball consisted of Scotsman Terry Blood and a guest from Ireland, Cecil Bartley. Regular readers may remember Cecil for his canny knack of hitting every tree on the course! Well, not on this occasion, I think he only hit one tree this time and the tree that he did hit, did him a favour and pushed it back into the fairway. He can thank me for removing his "tree wood" from his bag! Cecil is the man who supplies the society with golf balls with our logo on, and due to the fact that he works too hard doesn't get a lot of chance to play golf, he normally doesn't fair too well in the guest competition, but not on this occasion. He was whacking straight down the fairway and putting and chipping like a God! In fact his efforts were enough to secure him the guest trophy and honour of winning guest. But it didn't stop there, he even managed to pick the winner in the sweepstake to earn himself a tidy 50 euro! Luck of the Irish if you ask me!

In the members' competition, it wasn't such a high scoring game as the previous competition, except that is for the winners. In 3rd place on her own, was Eva Krivacska once again playing to her handicap with 36 points, she'd be a good bet for future events if you were a bookie. In 2nd place was another Scotsman, Gordon Gilhooley with a staggering 40 points, (Gordon has been cut 2 shots due to his recent performances!) But even Gordon couldn't keep up with this weeks' winner, our very own Captain, Rob Hughes who shot a round of 81 scoring him 42 points off a 17 handicap. Not bad by anyone's standards.

The nearest the pins on the 7th and 12th were no mean feat with the wind as it was. Rob Hughes got nearest on the 7th, and I think the only one to reach the green on the 12th was Dave Cooper who put it just 6 feet away from the pin! Yet again, nobody got a "2" so it's a rollover for our next event at the beginning of August.
Don't forget
our next events are on the Tuesday, 1st August and Tuesday, 15th August. Tee off times are 10.00am.
