After the enormity of Captains day, Sunday 19th was as usual a relatively quiet day. It was despite an unusual Northwesterly wind, and an absolute scorcher! As we were in small numbers we decided to just to play a Stableford competition all chucking in 10 euro to be split 3 euro for the front 9, 3 euro for the back 9 and 3 euro for the overall winner with 1 euro for 2nd place. We had a Spanish fella Jose Luis, who lives on the course, joining us for the day. I had played with Jose Luis on the Spanish Federation comp the day before. Although he doesn't speak much English, he thoroughly enjoyed the game and the banter going on between us!
Myself, Jose Luis, Coops and new member Dave Keenen were on the 2nd group and whilst we were coming up the 9th we passed the others coming down the 10th. They informed us their best score was 16 points for the front 9 by Eva Krivacska, by this time I was on 16 points myself and despite rolling off the green and going out of bounds on my 2nd shot, I managed to come of with an extra point on the 9th giving me 17 points and the front 9. Jose Luis started the back 9 well parring both the 10th and 11th whilst Eva's game started top decline a little. Captain Rob Hughes got his act together on the back 9 scoring 17 points, the same as me, so we ended up halving the back 9 and I won the overall. Everyone else had the last laugh though, we stayed at the 19th hole at the course for a few and I ended spending all my winnings on the bar bill!! Rob ended up taking more home than I did!
