After a long stretch of good weather, we've had a few overcast days this week. The sun has broken through at times, certainly enough for people to get a good tan judging by the colour of them. Almost perfect golfing weather for us though, even felt 5 spots of rain when we were on the 5th, then the sun came out! With only 2 guests playing with us on this event, we had a very good turnout from our members, 24 played on the day, and some our regulars couldn't make it. So two 3 balls and the rest four balls set out for a battle against the course. The wind started off pretty moderate, but picked up as the day went on. I was playing military golf, left, right, left, right, still struggling with my new grip, thankfully my putting and chipping saved me on this occasion, but no where near good enough to keep up with the rest of field. 6 of our members scored 36 points and above, and another six were within 5 shots of 36.

  The best of the bunch, winning by point with 42, was Steve Cording, Steve has only been playing a couple of years and was playing off 26. Close behind Steve in 2nd place was Dave Cooper with 41 points off an 18 handicap, with Morris Piddington and Peter Flynn joint 3rd with 38 points. Though the winners are being cut the usual 2 shots for a win and 1 shot for 2nd, this will only affect them in their qualifying match play games, as we have our 6 monthly handicap revise will take affect as from July 1st. I will post results of the matchplay games here on the site soon as the qualifiers are played.

  Nearest the pins for the Tuesday game were unusually both on the back 9. John Burgess got closest on the 12th and Alan Wrigley on the 15th. No-one got a 2 so it’s a rollover for our next game on 4th July. Guest winner with 31 points off a 17 handicap, was Jim Smith, not a bad score on a course you’ve never played before. The sweepstake was won by our newest member but many times guest, Graham Thomson. Graham has just moved over here after many years coming here on holiday, so if you need any painting, decorating, carpentry or building work, he’s the man you should call on (0034) 690 154854. I can personally vouch for Grahams work as he’s done many jobs for me in the past whilst here on holiday here, he’s a workaholic!
