Tuesday 6th July was yet
again a record breaking day for the society in more ways than one.
Once again we had our biggest turnout to date, with a total of 18
members and 11 guests. Many of our guests this week had handicaps
as low as 6 and 7.
As we were once again in large numbers, we had groups
teeing off both the 10th tee as well as the 1st. It was a scorcher
of a day, with quite a strong wind coming from the north. Despite
the wind there were some pretty good scores came in.
Getting a shots back this week were Mike Scarlett now
back off 28 and Dermott Haughian now playing off a handicap of 8.
We had many other winners
too. Guest winner this week was 18 handicapper Mick
Potter, who played as my partner on the Sunday
fun day of last week. Mick came off with a total of 28 points, 15
on the front and 13 on the back. He also won the nearest the pin competition
on both the 7th and the 15th, landing just 3 feet from the pin on
the 7th. This just pipped Tony Fawcetts drive that landed 5 feet from
the pin. But Tony was also a winner yet again on the “2’s”
competition after birdying the 7th. He won himself a total of 72 euro
after a rollover from the Sunday fun day. |
Steve Cordings |
A
special mention I feel is in order for Steve Cordings of Chablis Wine
Bar Corralejo, who came in 2nd with a great score of 33 points. Steve
has only been playing since the beginning of the year, and recently
been playing really well. I believe he puts some of the credit down
to his training partner, his faithful pooch Kiera, who has taken to
wearing a crash helmet for the training sessions!!! |
This week
was also the first time we introduced a sweepstake to our society
days. Everyone picks a players name from a bag, and if they pick
the winner of the event, they win themselves 50 euro. It was won
this week by a well deserved guest, John Riley from Ireland, who
went into the history books by being the 1st person to get an eagle
on a society day, congratulations John!
Yet again
we are very pleased to welcome 2 new members to the society, Dennis
and Jo McKernon. Dennis now plays off 18 and Jo an impressive 13!
They have been playing with us as guests on our last few events.
IMPORTANT NOTICE!
Our
next society event is on Tuesday, 3rd August. Tee
times are from 10.30 am. At the presentation afterwards, we will
be making the draw for our first ever, Individual Match
Play Trophy tournament. This competition open to members

year donated by country member, Stan Knox. 2nd prize will be 100
