It
was a quiet little affair for our 1st Sunday Funday
of the year. So the majorityvote
was to just play a stableford comp between ourselves with prizes
for the front 9, back 9 and overall 1st and 2nd. We had a good selection
of players with handicaps ranging from 9 and 10 up to 25. We had
pretty good weather too, mainly sunny with just a moderate wind,
a pleasant way to spend a sunny Sunday. It was very close on the
front 9, Rob Hughes had 15 points, Coops 16, and I scraped it with
17 points. It could have been more but my approach shot to the 9th
green disappeared, we all thought we knew where it was but when
we got there we couldn't find it, so I had to declare it a lost
ball which cost me the hole and as it turned out later, cost me
what could have been my best round ever. After a slightly shaky
start on the back 9, for some reason or other, everything just clicked
into place with me and I couldn't do a thing wrong! I ended up doing
the back 9 just 2 over par, with 2 birdies, 4 pars, 2 bogeys and
a double bogey on the 13th, giving me a bandit total of 25 points
on the back 9. Needless to say I was called everything from Zorro
to things I can't repeat and had to buy everyone a drink out of
my winnings! Unfortunately though, I can't say it was my best round
because I didn't complete the 9th hole, however I am going to frame
the scorecard! Irishman Dermott Haughian also had a pretty good
bash with 35 points playing off a handicap of 9, giving him 2nd
place.
