Yet again a scorching
day in paradise with its’ usual 20mph wind blowing in from
north/west! It seems like ages since we’ve seen any clouds!
Hope I’m not tempting fate by saying this. With a few last
minute changes and jigging around we had the perfect number for
a good days’ golf. Six guests were joining us for the event
including one of our regulars, Graham “The Roman” Thompson
and John “Ela’s Bar” Gibsons brother Michael.
Although it was a beautiful day, the wind was, as ever, a major
factor in the days scoring. I personally was having a great round,
31 points after the 15th, until I opened my big mouth on the 16th
tee by saying everything was going smoothly! Straight after this
on my drive, an unlucky bounce threw my ball to the base of a yucca
tree, leaving me with little chance of scoring on the hole. My bad
luck continued on the 17th, after a reasonable drive, my 2nd shot
had to be drawn round 2 big palm trees, which I nearly managed,
but I took it a little close to the fence, 6 inches on the wrong
side to be precise, enough to take me out of that hole too! So Both
myself and one of my playing partners, John Gibson ended up with
32 points, enough to put us tied 6th. Coming in 5th with 34 points
was rookie, Karen Boyles (a name that I feel I will be mentioning
a lot in the near future!) and tied 3rd with 35, were the dynamic
duo, Steve “Chablis” Cordings and Gordon Clemens. Which
brings us to 2nd place with a round consisting of 9 pars and 9 bogeys,
playing off a handicap of 9, with 36 points, Jo McKernon. A great
round I’m sure you will agree, but not enough to stop a guy
who’s finding his form lately, Dennis May who came in with
38 points. Dennis is now docked 2 shots, bringing him down to a
handicap of 22.

Nobody managed
to hit the green on the 7th, all in my 4 ball went in the water,
2 of us after hitting the side and bouncing in. A shame as both
myself, and guest Graham Thompson got within 1 foot of the 7th on
our practice game during the week! Nearest the pin on the par three
15th was won by winning guest, Charlie Jones, a good days work for
him. Nobody got a 2 on our 2’s comp, so it will be rolled
over to our next event on the 7th June. Sweepstake this week was
won by Gordon Clemens.

In just 4
weeks time we have the 2nd cup day of the year. Held last year in
December and won by Paul Worrall (Egor), this event is sponsored
by the Broncemar Beach Apartments in Caleta de
Fuste. We have now changed the date to a warmer time of year as
the evening meal is being held on the restaurant terrace. Tickets
for the evening meal will be available in the Blue Rock Bar in Corralejo
and in The Kings Arms in Caleta. After the presentation meal we’ll
be partying the night away in the Sports Tavern upstairs. There
are limited hotel rooms available for the people that want to stay
overnight and transport will be arranged for those who don’t.
Please contact either Derek Mac or myself for any further enquiries
on the numbers below
Don’t
forget our next event is Tuesday 7th June. Tee
times are from 10.40 am followed by Sunday 12th June
and the Broncemar Beach Cup Day, 21st June.
