Another scorcher! Unusually not too many guests, only 3, two of them are regulars, Graham Thomson and Barbara, Margot Kenny sister. The numbers were made up though by our members, 18 of us, some trying to get a last practice before our Gran Canaria trip. I'd requested to play with the Captains Cup winner, Steve Cording, my guest Graham, who was staying in my villa and accompanying us was Mike Streams. We had a great day in good company, and I can't believe how much Steve has improved. It must be nearly a year since I played with Steve and its no wonder he won the captains cup. He was out-driving all of us by a good 30 metres and Mike Streams, who I've named "the big easy" hits a ball a long way. Mike has a similar swing to Ernie Els, very smooth & slow but powerful.

. My guest Graham, who
is moving out to Fuerteventura in June, has it in his head that
he's not going to score on the 1st 3 holes, not just here but at
home too, and unfortunately it unfolded that way too. He did pick
up his game as we went along, and made some great shots. He hasn't
had much chance to play in England over the winter, another good
reason to move here! I, myself got off to a roaring start and after
birdying the 5th and 7th holes was on even par on the round, 1st
time ever for me, however, just like Graham has this thing about
the 1st 3 holes, I have a thing about the 8th! Yes a big cross went
through my scorecard on the 8th hole, and I managed to hack my way
through the rest of the round finish with 38 points, not a bad score
at all, but 21 of them were from the 1st 7 holes!

Our captain,
Rob Hughes was having a good knock as well, 22 points on the front
9 and 15 on the back with 2 blobs on the 12th and 13th. But we weren't
the only ones having a good front 9, the majority scored better
on the front than the back, the wind did pick up a little as the
day went on. Best score on the front 9 was from Vince Price who
scored a whopping 23 points that included a birdie on the 5th. Vince
also had a good back 9 with 18 points totalling 41 points sealing
him another victory and a 2 shot cut off his handicap! Winning guest
was Margot Kenny's sister, Barbara with 26 points off a 19 handicap.
Graham came 2nd in the guest competition followed by newcomer Jeff
Hall, who despite having the lowest score of the day, did win the
50 euro sweepstake which goes to prove you don't have to play well
to win something with the society! Nearest the pins were won by
Terry Blood on the 4th and Steed Ansell on the par three 15th. The
2's comp was won by myself for a 2 on the 7th and Steed on the 15th.
