With a lot of members away on holiday or business, Tuesday 28th September was a relatively quiet affair. A total of 23 played on the day with 8 guests joining us for the day. We did, however, have the highest ever score achieved by a member on a society day and 2 of our members ended up in a card play-off for 2nd place. The society as usual organized a nearest the pin competition on the 7th and 15th par 3 holes, along with a "2's" competition and a sweepstake for the winner.
The day started off a little overcast but by half way round
the sun was beating down as usual. Not too windy either, but enough
to make you think about club selection.
Getting a shot back this
week was Terry Blood now playing off 28, and Steve Cordings now
also playing off 28.
Guest winner
this week was Tony
Boardman
playing off a handicap of 18 with a score of 36 points, 19 on front
9, 17 on back 9.
Nearest the pin on the
7th was won by guest Derek Bronham, and the 15th was won by Pete
Thomas. It was the first time Pete had ever reached a par 3 green
in 1, so he was chuffed to win the nearest the pin as well! Pete
also managed to pick the winner on the sweepstake so also got his
days golf for free! The 2's competition was won by guest Perry Anderson
for a birdie on the 4th, he won himself 46 Euros.
Out of our 8 guests this week, there was one who had
only played once before on a golf course, I must say he did very
well to keep up and showed good course etiquette. He
did have the odd stroke of luck (see pic) Lyndon managed to use
a yellow stake to stop the ball going in the water, exceptional
aim I thought!!! This can only be equalled or beaten by Stan Knox’s
shot on the 9th hole on our Sunday Fun day 14th September, where
he managed to wedge a ball into a tree!!! Perhaps we should have
a “shot of the month” competition, drop me a line to
via email
to vote for this months’ shot of the month.

This week we are welcoming a new member to the society, Peter Legerstein,
from Austria, who has the Maravilla apartments in El Cotillo. A
warm welcome to Peter.
MATCH PLAY
STATUS
The draw has
now been made for our match play spin-off competition, where the
first sixteen to be knocked out the Individual Match Play competition
go on to play for a Plate Trophy, kindly donated by one of our members,
Gordon Clemens. A lot of good players were knocked out early in
the original competition, so the Plate Trophy will be just as interesting,
with everyone fired up ready to win. Details of the Match play and
other events are on our website Leaderboard
page.
Our next society events are on Tuesday, 12th October
and Sunday, 17th October. Tee times are from 10.30
am.
