It's been red hot here for the last week or so with temperatures reaching 40ºC, even the wind sometimes feels like a hairdryer blowing warm air! The term "Mad dogs & Englishmen" springs to mind, and I think maybe golfers should be added to that list!
Come rain or shine we turnout to bash a little white ball with a metal stick round a field full of sandy patches with the aim of popping it in a hole the size of a tee cup, all this for fun! Believe it or not though, we do have fun and there are few sports where you spend 4-5 hours socialising with what are sometimes complete strangers and still holds values of etiquette and sportsmanship that you wouldn't find today on a football field in the premiership!

Ok I waffled on enough
now! To the game in question, 5 guests joined us for the day, some
of them from previous times like Stuart Higginson or Peter Kaye
as we know him. Stuart and his family have been coming into the
bar I work in all week and we've had an absolute scream. Also playing
in my fourball was another guest Darron Hunt, who contacted me via
our to arrange a game or 2 whilst on holiday in Caleta de Fuste.
Making up the four was Steve Cording from Chablis wine bar
in Corralejo, regular readers know that
Steve has been having a good time of it this year, with 3 wins including
Captains Cup and two 2nd places. He was still on form on that day
too, certainly was playing the best out of our fourball. I thought
he was going to win the day but a few of our members had other ideas!

Coming off with the same score as Steve with 35 points was Vince Price who on a card play-off on the back 6 holes, just managed to pip Steve at the post for 2nd place. The winner of our members' competition has just this week celebrated his 40th birthday so as Billy Seaforth came up to collect his cup, the whole society sang happy birthday to him! Guest winner on this event, much to his surprise as anyone else, was Peter Kaye or should I say Stuart Higginson. Nearest the pins were won by Captain Rob Hughes on the 4th and Terry Blood on the par three 15th. No one won the 2's comp so it's a rollover to the 12th September. Winning the sweepstake for picking the winner of the day was Billy's uncle, John Burgess, talk about keeping it in the family!
