Somewhat of a quieter occasion for this event, but not surprising with quite a few away on holiday plus all the other things that currently on the go. Still there was all to play for with only 8 stableford games left in the season. Again we managed to get off both the 1st and 10th tees, and being in 3 balls we managed to get round quickly and finish within a short time of each other. The 3 ball I was in consisted of myself, the legendary Jo McKernon and new member Keith Hughes. Being at the back of the field due to admin responsibilities, we all made a good start on the first few holes, nobody going out of bounds or in the hazard on the dreaded 2nd hole, however things went rapidly downhill for me after that! Not for Jo though who was only inches away from a hole in 1 on the 4th. From where we were standing it was right in line with the pin and we were just waiting for it to drop, Jo apparently had to close her eyes and turn away! Though not a hole-in-one, she did get the birdie, therefore giving her a share of the 2's. If you read our reports regularly, you will know that Jo has been on fire for what seems like ages. Well I witnessed it 1st hand on Tuesday and I for one, am quaking in my boots knowing that she is hot on my tail for player of the year and potentially an opponent for the match play tournament. Even with 2 no score holes, Jo managed to come off with 36 points also getting another "2" on the par 3 15th, but for the 1st time ever for me, I also birdied the 15th and qualified for what was now a 3rd of the 2's money. It was pretty tough conditions, which was reflected in most people's scores, but one of our newer members, John Burgess also scored 36 points bringing it to a card play off for glory. In these situations, whoever scores the highest on the back 9 holes wins the comp which on this occasion was John Burgess with 21 points on the back 9 compared with 19 from Jo. So congratulations to John for his 1st win with the society. In third place, also much to my dismay was Dennis McKernon with 33 points.

Everyone else
came in with 30 points and below, pretty low scoring compared to
normal. Just to add insult to injury, the winner of our guests comp
was Dennis McKernons son, Craig! Craig narrowly beat Stuart lane,
Pete Thomas's son-in-law, and Billy Seaforth by one point scoring
a pretty impressive 32. Obviously inherited his fathers luck has
Craig, though thankfully for him, not his looks!!! Nearest the pins
were won by guess who? Yes Jo McKernon on the 15th and Steve Bennett
on the 7th. The sweep this week was won by Paul Benham for picking
John as the winner.
. Apart from
the normal comps we have on the go, we also are holding our individual
match play knockout tournament as well as getting ready for our
1st, one day Ryder Cup to be held on Tuesday 6th September. The
match play is reaching its quarterfinal stages which will lead on
to a spin off plate competition starting 13th September, to run
alongside our main competition for those not through to the quarterfinals.
Already through to the quarterfinals are Paul Benham, Jo McKernon
and Tony Fawcett.
Don't forget
our next events are La Sirena cup day Tuesday,
13th September. Tee times are from 10.40 am followed by
an evening presentation meal, details available by contacting the
numbers below and Sunday 18th September tees from 11.00am
