Corralejo Golf Society-Fuerteventura Golf at its best-January 31st Winners

The best turnout of the year so far with 22 members and 8 guests making two three balls and six four balls. It was a rollover on the 2's comp with a rollover cash prize of 98 euro. Shame we didn't do this comp on the Sunday before as both me and Margot Kenny both got 2's! Nearest the pins were on the 4th and the 15th, neither of them easy with the strong winds blowing from the north/east. We narrowly escaped a shower of rain earlier on and even got a little sunshine at the latter half of the game. My group consisted of 3 guests who were on holiday, John Harley, Steve Risby and Ant Jones all of whom had played with the society on previous occasions. Ant got off to a flier on the front 9 with 20 points of a 19 handicap, and despite some unfortunate luck on certain holes (which I promised not to mention!) managed to win the guest comp with 34 points, closely followed by Chris Hopkins with 31, good scores for such a tough course

Corralejo Golf winner John Burgess and runner-up Tony Fawcett

In the members comp, just 3 points separated the top 7 players, Annie Streams and Dennis McKernon got 34, Steve Cordings and Paul Benham got 35, I scored 36 and it was a card play-off for the winner between John Burgess and Tony Fawcett with 37 points. With 21 points on the back 9, John took the victory over Tony earning him a 2 shot cut off his handicap! Incredibly, no one got a 2 on the day, so it would be a double rollover for the next game on Valentines’ day. I was away on holiday of course so never got a look in! Nearest the pins were won by Mike Streams on the 4th and unusually myself on the 15th. Also having a little luck on the day, though not with his golf, was Derek Mac who won the 50 euro sweepstake. It appears that Derek used his money wisely and in my absence took over the Rogues Gallery Bar in Corralejo with his partner Jo Roaden.
