Hi folks! Sorry it's been a while. Well have we got a lot to catch
up on! so I'll do a summary of what's been happening so far.
First of all for those who don't
know the outcome of last years yearly competitions, Rob Hughes narrowly
beat Derek Mac on our yearly eclectic and is already doing well
so far this year! Talking of narrow escapes, I just scraped through
on player of the year with Joan Roaden hot on my tail, it was all
down to the last game on both the eclectic and player of the year,
we'll have to see what happens this year! We have to of course say
a big welcome our new Captain for the 2005 season, Mr Simon Atherfold,
who's big day falls on Tuesday March 15th.

Right, so a brief summary
of games so far this year, our first game on 4th January was a better
ball fun competition, all the scoring was really good, but the winning
team Rob Hughes and Dave Cooper romped in with a massive 50 points!!
Our 1st full Stableford competition of the year was
on Tuesday 18th Jan, a good turnout with 19 members and 4 guests.
Once again Rob Hughes won the day with an impressive 38 points.
There was a tie for 2nd with Simon Atherfold, Jo McKernon and Derek
Mac all getting 36 points. Under our new pointing system of 2005,
tied 2nd will achieve 29 points towards player of the year, rather
than a card play-off. Guest winner on the 18th of January was Ken
Taylor with 28 points. Incidentally, everyone's handicap was revised
at the start of the new season by taking an average of their best
3 scores and an average of their handicap at the time. Most got
a few shots back, the only one losing a few was Rob Hughes who scored
an amazing 44 points on the last game of the season!

Also new this year is the
incorporation of some Sunday Stableford events enabling our members
who can mostly only play on Sundays a better chance towards the
yearly comps. The 1st of which being Sunday 23rd January, judging
by the scores it was a tough day with only 5 people getting over
30 points, the victor being Dennis McKernon with 37 points, getting
docked 2 shots, 2nd was Phil Richards with 34. Under our new ruling,
a winner will get docked 2 shots if scoring 37 or over, and 1 shot
if 36 or less, and there are no longer shots given back for the
player coming last, much to the disappointment of Rob Hughes who
only managed 20 points on this occasion!! A 6 monthly review on
handicaps will be the only way shots back can be awarded. Guest
winner on the 23rd was Mike Atherfold (yes Simons son!) coming in
with 32 points.
